Youth-led environmental project launches at Brocks Hill

The Oadby and Wigston Nature, Environment and Wildlife Team (NEWTs) project is a youth-led environmental project run by Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust with support from Oadby and Wigston Borough Council.

The project will involve 15 young people aged 13 – 19 in exploring, protecting and inspiring others about the natural world at Brocks Hill Country Park and Lucas Marsh Nature Reserve, Oadby. They will decide and plan the activities and then carry out their plans. They will gain valuable accreditation of their volunteering through established time and skill awards.

NEWTs meetings will be held one Saturday and one Wednesday evening per month and the first session will be on November 19.

If you are a young person living, studying or working in the Oadby and Wigston area and are interested in becoming involved in this project, please contact Rachel Ibbotson, NEWT Project officer for more information and a registration/consent form before November 11.

You can contact Rachel on 0116 272 8866 or email NEWTproject@lrwt.org.uk

This project is funded by The National Lottery through Heritage Lottery Fund – Young Roots Programme.
