About the event

A hidden gem in the Leicestershire countryside, Holwell reserve shows off its colours in summer with the reds, blues and yellows of wildflowers and butterfly wings.
Once a quarry, the rock faces and slopes left behind have been taken over by herb rich and verdant grassland.

The hollows make for ideal, sheltered sun-traps, perfect for spotting butterflies like the Common Blue, the Green Hairstreak and the Essex Skipper.

Join our expert reserve officer for a walk through the reserve, to spot these pirouetting flyers and a bee orchid or two too, and celebrate Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust’s anniversary year under the sun and amongst the flowers. This event is open to all.
