Two of the Trust's nature reserve groups need some extra volunteers to help with practical work on their sites.
The Cloud Wood group meet every Friday from 9.30 am till 2.30 pm at Cloud Wood Nature Reserve, near Worthington, NW Leics. The main task this winter is coppicing a coupe of ½ hectare in size by hand, preparing stakes and binders for local hedge layers and some ride widening work. The group is mainly based at Cloud Wood in the winter with the occasional task days to nearby reserves such as Kelham Bridge and Dimminsdale reserves. The group will also meet two Sundays a month at Cloud Wood Nature Reserve at 10am on the following dates: Jan: 9th & 23rd, February 6th & 20th, March: 6th & 20th.
The Ulverscroft group meet on the first Sunday of every month throughout the year from 9.00 am until midday. This winter the group will do a mixture of tasks from path clearance, woodland management and scrub removal on the important heathlands. The group is led by Steve Woodward who is very knowledgeable on natural history so plenty of opportunity to learn something new as well as getting fit.
No previous experience is required and gloves and tools will be provided. You need to be over 18 years of age.
