The Trust has recently invested in high tech remote cameras to help monitor wildlife on its reserves. The cameras can take pictures, or videos, both during the day and at night. They have been placed at a number of reserves, on known animal trails, to see what is using them. 

Senior Conservation Officer Neil Pilcher said, “The cameras are very useful for giving us a snap shot of what animals are using different areas on a reserve. So far they have captured some interesting still photos of things like roe deer and even tawny owls.

“However, the most interesting thing has been to see the video clips which also show the animal’s behaviour. Some animals such as badgers are clearly aware of the cameras (see ‘badger sniffing camera’), whereas others seem oblivious. We have also captured some amusing images such as the ‘squirrel with stick’ which is definitely a favourite in the Trust office at the moment.”
