Wild About Our Reserves Appeal - Bracken Management

£1,100 would buy a new bracken roller to enable space for other flora to grow.

Management of inaccessible areas of bracken

Bracken roller for quad bike

Bracken control is essential for various types of habitat, particularly rough grassland. The aim is to reduce the vigour of bracken, which if left unchecked would smother other flora beneath it.

Without management, grass growth would be suppressed resulting in a decline in grassland species

A new roller for our quad bike would enable us to roll areas of bracken at Charnwood and Ulverscroft that cannot be rolled with conventional tractor-driven equipment.

The sites are very rocky, making large machinery use impossible, but a smaller roller towed behind a quad-bike would allow us to access previously inaccessible areas for bracken management.
