Local Groups

One of the Trust's greatest strengths is our network of Local Groups, who represent the Trust in their local community. This helps to give the Trust a high profile throughout Leicestershire and Rutland and gives local communities an opportunity to become directly involved in our work.

Local Groups organise a wide range of activities throughout the year to provide opportunities for people to enjoy and find out more about local wildlife and to encourage more support for the Trust. Activities range from guided walks and reserve open days, to slide talks and plant sales.

The Trust's Local Groups depend on the dedication of their volunteers - from manning stands at local events to raising funds and recruiting members.

Local Group Programmes

Winter meetings take place once a month and include fascinating illustrated talks on local wildlife, as well as topics from further afield. Summer programmes can vary but most Local Groups have outings to nature reserves and other areas of wildlife interest, as well as holding open-days and fundraising events.

Non-members are welcome to attend Local Group events and meetings. Most of the groups charge a small admission fee.

Charnwood Group

During the Winter: indoor meetings are held one Wednesday a month at 7.30pm, in Woodhouse Eaves Village Hall, Main Street, LE12 8RZ.
During the Summer: the group holds occasional outdoor events.

Humberstone Group

During the Winter: indoor meetings are held one Friday a month at 7.30pm in Nether Hall Neighbourhood Centre Armadale Drive, LE5 1RT.

Leicester Group

This new group meets on the second Tuesday of every month at the Fire Bug Bar, Millstone Lane, Leicester city centre. The evening starts at 7.30pm and finishes around 9.00pm. As well as talks the group also arranges guided walks.

Melton Group

During the Winter: indoor meetings are held one Monday a month at 7.30pm in United Reformed Church, Chapel Street, Melton Mowbray.
During the Summer: the group holds occasional outdoor events.

During the Winter: indoor meetings are held one Friday a month at 7.30pm in Ashby Methodist Chapel, Burton Road, Ashby.
During the Summer: outdoor meetings are held one Friday evening a month at various interesting venues.

During the Winter: indoor meetings are held one Monday a month at 7.30pm in the Anglian Water Birdwatching Centre, Egleton.
