Local groups

Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Watch has a network of local groups where children meet and have fun exploring their local environments.

Releasing Great tit at Wildlife Watch Family Event

  • Make friends with otehr nature detectives
  • Have lots of fun 
  • Get hands on with wildlife from pond dipping to wildlife safaris.

Wildlife Watch groups are free to join and welcome new members. They are organised by trained volunteer Leaders and Helpers who know about the local wildlife and wild places.

Meetings are suitable for children aged 5 - 12. Children under 8 must be accompanied by a parent/carer throughout the activity.

BOOKING ESSENTIAL for all meetings - please book by the Monday before each meeting to allow the volunteer leaders to plan and prepare. Remember that groups do not always meet in the same place. To avoid disappointment, please confirm meeting times and locations when booking.

NB No dogs allowed at Wildlife Watch groups or events.

Braunstone Wildlife Watch Group

Braunstone WW group

Braunstone Wildlife Watch Group meet in the Civic Centre in Braunstone Town and visits various sites in Braunstone and further afield.

Meetings are usually on the first Sunday of the month between 10.00am – 12.30pm.

The activities are run by Leaders Mick Gregg and Rachel Ibbotson.

Brocks Hill Wildlife Watch Group

Brocks Hill Wildlife Watch group

Brocks Hill Wildlife Watch Group meets at Brocks Hill Country Park in Oadby and regularly visits other sites across Leicestershire.

Meetings are usually on the second Saturday of the month between 10.30am – 12.30pm.

The group is run by volunteer Leaders Elaine Roberts, Megan Warner and Paul Howland.

Heart of the Forest Wildlife Watch Group

The new Heart of the Forest Wildlife Watch Group usually meets at Hicks Lodge, near Moira 

Meetings are usually on the first Saturday of the month between 10am - 12.00pm. 

The group is run by volunteer Leaders.

BOOKING ESSENTIAL - Go to Upcoming events

(Hicks Lodge is a Forest Commission site. Pay and display parking charges apply. The charges are £1 for 1 hour or £3 for all day. Money raised from this car park goes towards the maintenance of the visitor centre, the trails and the wider forest.) 

Rutland Water Wildlife Watch Group

Rutland Water Wildlife Watch Group usually start in the classroom at the Anglian Water Birdwatching Centre at Rutland Water Nature Reserve, Egleton.

Meetings are usually on the second Sunday each month from 10.00am – 12.00pm. 

The group is run by Leaders Jenny Hall and Laura Ritchie.
